We will contact you when your annual review is due with a short questionnaire to complete.

If a clinician has asked you to book a blood test, please telephone the surgery and a Receptionist will offer you an appointment with one of our Phlebotomists. 

Salisbury District Hospital offer pre-booked blood tests at Salisbury Hospital or the Community Diagnostic Centre. Walk-ins are no longer available.

All immunisations for children are offered by the practice. The Community Child Health Services will advise you when an appointment is due and what immunisations are required. Please contact us via telephone to arrange a convenient appointment with one of our practice nurses.

All of our doctors and nurses are able to provide contraceptive advice. If you would like to take the contraceptive pill, you will be required to speak to one of our doctors for your first appointment.

If you have been asked to complete our contraceptive pill or patch checklist for your medication review, please click on the link in the text message to the questionnaire.

If you are interested in having an implant or coil fitted, replaced or removed, please contact the practice.

First contact physiotherapist appointments are available at Salisbury Medical Practice.  

Typically found in primary care settings, First contact physiotherapists serve as the first point of contact for patients who need an immediate and often one-off assessment of musculoskeletal concerns, with the aim of triaging to the appropriate service as soon as possible. First contact physiotherapists have undergone further training vs. a physiotherapist, and have advanced skills to quickly assess, diagnose and recommend appropriate treatment for patients, initiating a pathway for onward care only. This is different from a standard ‘hands-on’ physiotherapy appointment, where manual therapy is offered and patients are typically seen over multiple sessions, with treatment plans that evolve based on progress.

The First contact physiotherapist service is suitable for patients who have joint, muscle and/or nerve pain and enables them to directly see a first contact physiotherapist instead of a GP. All first contact physiotherapists are trained to identify red flag symptoms which may require urgent medical attention and they work closely with GPs to ensure patients get to see the most appropriate clinician as soon as possible. 

If appropriate, an first contact physiotherapist may:

• Provide exercise and self-management advice 
• Refer for imaging (X-Ray/MRI/Ultrasound scan) 
• Refer for blood tests 
• Ask appropriate medication to be prescribed 
• Refer to secondary health service e.g. Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Orthotics or Physiotherapy

In an alternative pathway, patients can self-refer to the Adult Physiotherapy Service where a physiotherapist directly treats a range of conditions that affect both joints, muscles and nerves. Physiotherapy appointments are NOT offered at or bookable via Salisbury Medical Practice, and more information about this service, including the Self-Referral Form, can be found on the Community Health website. 

For reference, physiotherapists cover a broad scope of varying patient needs from post-operative rehab to chronic pain management. Manual therapy, exercises and alternative treatments such as acupuncture may form part of the appointment and/or rehabilitation plan following a physical examination. 

You'll be invited for an NHS Health Check every five years if you are between 40 and 74 years old, as long as you don't have an existing vascular condition. We will write to you, inviting you to make an appointment for this check.

The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it.

By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions; there is good evidence of this.

The check is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight, and blood pressure. There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol and glucose levels.

Following the check you will receive free personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy. 

Language Line is an interpreter service we offer to all our patients. This is an Ipad which remotely connects via video to an interpreter and is available in 40 languages, including American and British Sign Language. 

This means you are able to speak to a GP or Nurse in confidence, without the need to bring somebody with you to your appointment. Please let the Receptionist know when booking the appointment and they will happily organise this for you.

We have two operating theatres at Fisherton House where minor operations are carried out.

Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Our first flu clinic of the year will take place in September. Please telephone the surgery in September to find out more. 

All patients who are smokers are encouraged to stop smoking. The practice nurses are trained to support patients who wish to stop.

We have a high number of patients not attending these appointments, which means those patients who want to stop smoking are finding it difficult to book an early appointment. We would be grateful if you could help us by cancelling any appointment you cannot make.
